Just fitted new rear cylinder and shoes etc..... now i have no pedal at all?!?

Bleeded up fronts fine, but rears seem to be struggling with fluid.... so what do people think!?

Rubber flexi or splitter on rear subframe?!

how long have you been bleeding them for, sometimes they take a while to come through, or your brakes arent adjusted properly.

i have always been told to do the furthest away from the master cylinder and work your way in to the closest, it works maybe someone has an easier way

air in the splitter I would guess

Back the rear brakes right off so there is a bit more movement in the shoes and try it again, if it works then adjust the shoes back up

Also check that the bleeders arent full ov crud

The brake hoses are probably forty years old and blocked up.

Is the proportioning valve is on the rear subframe?
As lil-ute said...l/r, r/r,l/f to r/f....adjust all shoes as required....with the rears crack one bleed nipple then slowly put your foot to the floor, then lock nipple up and release pedal, repeat process until there is no air in the fluid, then go to r/r and do the same, etc, etc......

Might pay to check that you have no blocked Bleed nipples or the little hole in the cylinder behind them. Start bleeding the rears at the Splitter valve by just slackening the pipes and work your way towards the wheels one side at a time. This helps the air that is trapped release in stages. Also have the car Jacked up with it's bum up in the air the higher the better. This helps the Air flow rearwards and out instead of a bubble like in a spirit level.
VERY IMPORTANTLY Make sure you chock the front wheels and put Axle stands under car before going under it. Never work under a car on a Jack alone.

Two tips which may help.

1. I love the little one-man bleeding kit (it's a kit for one man to bleed the brakes, not a kit for making one man bleed, although that's a possibility too. And I guess there's a corresponding kit for women). It's really just a one-way valve on a tube but it's cheap and works really well.

2. Some people remove the brake drums, then compress the shoes using a clamp. This pumps all the fluid and any trapped air out of the brake cylinder. You keep the clamps on until you've bled the entire system.

If you decide to throw in the towel, Adrian at Morris Mania is very good with brakes, he used to work as a hydraulics technician (so I'm told) so he is up on his fluid power knowledge.

Otherwise, All Clutch and Brake in Pinn street St Marys (behind the fire station) are very very good with brakes, especially for older cars. I've been taking all sorts of cars there for years!

Mind you, getting it there might be tricky...
