What I was thinking is having a part number guide. Things such as body numbers, engine numbers, head numbers, gearbox numbers, etc. It will be handy for some of us who don't know the numbers off by heard, to carry around when we go swap meeting or the like.

So just reply in this thread and we'll see how we go. Copy what the last person had, and add to it. So the list grows longer, rather than have a bit here and bit there. Make sense? Add the part number, and what it is off. Put things under headings, which i'll start off...

Body Numbers

Engine Numbers

Head Casting Numbers

Gearbox Casting Numbers

Add other categories if you think that it would be usefull!

2 S's & a clubman
I don't wish to disagree but I think your codes for the MK2 S and Clubman GT are wrong.
The MK2 Cooper 'S' code is YG2S4 aand the Clubman GT code is YG2S8 ie there is no K in the code. The K was dropped when the MK2 'S' was introduced. At least on cars built with ADR plates from late 69 early 70. Parnell got that wrong as well so you are in good company.
Unfortunately dropping the K from the code makes it relatively easy for unscrupulous persons to make a Mini K ID plate into a MK2 S ID plate. The Mini K code is YG2S1 and the 1 can be easily overstamped to make a 4.

Regards
RonR

MiniMatic (`Mk2' with oval binnacle) body code is YG2S5.
All books I've seen have it wrong, but I've owned 2 of 'em..
