i had an 85 mazda 626 in which the rings went so a grand a bit went into reco-ing honing, blueprint etc.....

and the guys that did the work, put it back together ......sans airfilter element.. :shock:

i only noticed it after about 2 weeks (not sure why i was looking :) )

and we'd done a hell of a lot of dirt road driving (down to victor at one point) :shock:

Manual mini's do the same thing, as the oil gets lower the gearchange gets more notchy and the synchros may start to catch :wink:

Well the good news (see start of thead) is I have areplacement disk & ball joint & the rover should be back on the road monday. No as good as new yet though. Have to try & find some 92 Cooper wheelnuts. :?

This would only apply to mini's as they're one of the few cars that use the same sump to lubricate the gearbox and motor as one, the cars mentioned here would have their own seperate transmission fluid...
