That's the only bit you have to worry about Kev

If you run avgas your less likely to get caught. So its a good idea.

I ran that mix at Wakefield Park, once. :x
The car went better on the way home, after I filled the tanks up with Ultimate alone.

Im prepared to spend a lot on it, hopefully keeping the engine rebuild 5 - 10k.

Its being built as a show car but i want it to be reliable enough to be used at least a couple of times a week.

If your spending 5-10K I'd suggest you get it purposely built for high boost, don't worry about std internals get proper pistons that will help you lower the comp ratio.
Get a cam suited for a turbo-ed engine.
Go bigger valves and head ports, maybe even look at a different head.
Also your carby will most probably need to be swapped out for one suited for a blow through set up, I'm assuming your intending to use an inter-cooler with that much boost.

Cheers, atm, just looking for some insight so i can start some decent research, at the moment i'm stripping the engine back so its in individual pieces. :)

I was going to run an intercooler even if i had barely any boost, cause as we all know, mini's have one of the best cooling systems.

I'm confused. In NSW it is illegal for a P plater to drive a vehicle that has been turbo'd. Is it the same up here? I will investigate the Transport site for correct answer but just thought someone might know off the top of their head

Ahhh good ol' boost ay.
Your question is IMPOSSIBLE to answer.
It all depends on the condition of the motor.

Ben and I ran 15psi daily... I ran 16+ psi last time at the drags by myself...
It depends on the actual turbo you get too.

Ben never had Head gasket probs until he ran bigger boost (15psi) yet I was destroying head gaskets at 10psi.
Its all to do with heat in the chamber.

New $2kturbo rectified that issue... they are much more efficient ball bearing turbo's now)

Also - at 16psi good luck - I had to get a quaife LSD very sticky rubber and learn how to drive it at that boost) chances are you will sit there spinning and break your gearbox or wrap yourself around the first tree/pole.
Bens would shoot you across 3 lanes on the highway.

What the heck is my point?
Well, my point is get that $10k and add a little before you even consider running 16psi champ.
You need to control the car - camber, tie rod ends, etc etc so the thing stays straight... then you need to get the power to the ground, LSD and good rubber... then you need to make sure that the gearbox handles it all...
If you have a good 998 (new bearings, pistons, etc) then probably 7psi max I would say...

If you build it to handle boost properly... then you can go 16psi but there is MUCH MUCH more to it than just the motor itself. You have timing, heat, etc etc which all make the motor go BANG! if not done right.

EDIT : The new owner has actually called me and said "Jees, how do I turn the boost down - its impossible to control in winter and the Wife cant drive it period" - and thats on 15psi...

Pete
