2 questions:

1. Where did you buy the rubbers? I've found the ones from Mini places do fit better than generic ones from fred bloggs rubbers.

2. Is the car straight? I had the same problem with mine, found it had had a prang years before I got it and the rear window aperture shape is a bit wonky. Got the glass mounted in it eventually, after much cursing and swearing etc. 8)

As has been said before is the car straight?
Get the window and carefully sit it in the opening without the rubber, get someone to hold it there from the inside whilst you check outside to see if the opening is the correct shape and size.
If obriens couldnt get it to fit , I think the shape/size is wrong.
Has there been any repairs to the window/ rear end.?
Good luck.
Craig

I got rubbers (in Sydney) from the MG place. O'Brien at Mascot took the car for a day and ripped everything out, cleaned it all up (ie pulled off 40 year old roof lining underneath that stuck out through to the front..!!) and threw it all together nicely AND charged me half the price because he was a Mini fan..!

I high pressure hosed it today and their leak-proof guarantee has stood the test :D

the car had had a rear nudge but it didnt effect the window line, it seems the window is too short when it is fitted as there is a gap in the top right and top left hand corners, its not the window size though as we put another window in and it was the same!
