Got a motor on box today. Block says 99H791P....the chart says it's a Mini Clubman ELC motor...... :? WTF is ELC????

It's got a 12G202 head on it....is that a 1098 head?

....also got twin SU's on it

Yeppers it is a 1098 head. I think the ELC is a pollution headed motor. The morons at Leyland thought they could clean up their act and try plumbing a couple of pipes into a 998cc cylinder head, connect them to a big air pump and try to lower the CO emissions. Alas, most of the tubes blocked up before the first service and the air pump packed it in soon after. Most people remove the plumbing and insert 4 x grub screws into the holes.

The 1098 head will do well with a good skim(0.5-1.5mm)and not much else - they definitely flow better than the 998cc cylinder heads.

Hooroo for now...

Cheers for that Rob...I thought as much.

If I don't get my 1275, then that head on my 998 will be a good second best for now....

If that 202 head has air injection ports it's the first one I've heard of.
99H791 is just a late Clubbie, 998cc. Unless it's has a 1098 crank transplant..

no air injection ports in this head.

I got a good feeling about this motor for some reason. The PO said it was an 1100, but block says otherwise. It looks like it's sitting on a reco box, has twin SU's bolted up to it. I might take the head off it sometime and look inside

Whats the 1100 stroke again Kev?

3.296" (83.7mm)
998 is 3" (76.2mm)

Put #1 piston at TDC with plugs out. Stick a piece of wire down to the piston (hold wire vertical) Measure to top of plug hole.
Then do same with #2, without turning engine. Difference is the stroke.

And the additional Goss
Just get Dr to have a look at the boxs you have and use the best block
You now know the dirrecance between a good 1100 a 998 and what can be done...Have a ride in Josh's or Morris 8)
Rod the 202 can be done up nicely...better than a 925
