PM Graham_in_Aus .. he's the resident Brit-spec Cooper guru ....
he's especially find of the "little coopers" (997, 998) so he may shed some light on it

Doogie,
You need the rods, a 970S crank (~60mm stroke) and deck a 1275S block about 3/8" I think. Use an S block, as the deck is thicker than all the others.

These are the specs, jims right Graham is the man on these things...

Specs indicate that it's just a shortened stroke we're looking at here:

970 S Bore/Stroke: 70.61mm x 62mm

1275S Bore/Stroke:70.61mm x 81.3mm

You may also need to change the crank..I'm a fan of the little high revving 970S 8)

<edit> Doc cleared that right up :) I would be guessing that a 970 S crank would be as rare as rocking horse doo doo..

Ivan (Mini Spares & Repairs) owns a 970S.

I think you will find 970S cranks pretty scarce. Not many were made.

BTW Josh, they have bugger-all torque... you have to rev the nuts off 'em to get anywhere!
Sorta like an 850 with more HP. (62, I think)

Hehe, i'd be happy just revving it's nuts off  who cares where i'm going 10,000 rpm here i come....that might be pushing it though..at least 9 ;)

That'll be about the same power as my 1152? or slower with the loss in torque?

Could you Destroke a 1275"S" ?
3/8 is an AWFUL lot of stroke change, but you could have the crankpins welded and re-ground on a smaller base circle..... be less than $2500 I'm sure.....

Josh, I think your 1152 would have way more than 62 HP now, and it's definitely more torquey than a 970 would be..

Just remember- HP= torque x RPM.... 8)

Crazy as it sounds, i actually thought of de-stroking a 998 Crank....
find some rods of the approximate dimensions from a motorbike, a small, light set of kawasaki or honda pistons..... 11,000RPM and 16Psi.... hmmmm
But the thought of having a mini flywheel / clutch spinning at that speed scared me !!

I've got a nice Hillman Imp crank sitting here, ~60mm stroke, might be a bit long end to end though. But it'd never break..
