I just degreased the engine block yesterday and would like to repaint it in its original colour.
I notice the British made Cooper S’s tend to have Green engine blocks. What colour would the engine block on a simple 998cc. Australian made Mini Deluxe have been.

Someone has also put in a servo brake unit in this car. What colour would these be? How about other parts such as the generator, starter motor etc. Would be great if someone could show me a photo of an original 998 block off an ordinary non-cooper mini.

Any suggestions what sort of paint to buy?

Metalic Beige (or is it Beige Metalic?). A yellower colour than the greens of the coopers so I'm told.

I will get to re-painting my engine one day... with the brake booster you no longer have a Deluxe heater unit?

I dont think there ever was a heater unit in my car, but then I only got it 30 something years after it was made.
Thanks for the info on the 998 block colour scheme ie. "metallic beige". Did a google search and all I could find for this was for an Audi, where one of its paint options is "Dakar Beige Metallic [PA07]".

The colour of non-cooper blocks in 1966 was "classic gold" dulux code 10488.

Mini King stocks all the right paints for Oz motors...

I don't think this is correct. Happy to believe it is if anyone can show proof.

However, as far as I know all the Mini saloon engines were painted Metallic Green Metallic prior to the Mini K (1965 to 1969). This was painted straight over the dark green (BMC Engine Green, which varies anyway) that was applied in the UK.

The closest off-the-shelf colour I have been able to find is Mitsubishi Sherwood Green metallic.

The Mini K engines were Australian-assembled and were originally painted Classic Gold Metallic - the same as the Morris 1100. However, it appears that after late 1969 or early 1970 they were painted Metallic Green Metallic as well.

I'm happy to concede this is not correct if anyone can show the proof, but this is what I have been able to nut out with it to date.

I just don't buy that - there are too many metallic gold engines in original cars from that era for them to have been green. I've wrecked a couple early deluxes that had scraps of original gold, under layers and layers of crap, with original pistons in the bores... and look at Steve.E's unrestored example above
