hi guys dont despair too much with rover diagnosis issues and most parts in victoria, as we do have a diagnosis computer with the tune up facility availiable for use by selected mini workshops(we only sell the parts) and there are a few others who have efi bits availiable.

There are only two ecu's for a SPI, the standard one for the 50hpmptor with 9.1:1 comp ratio and the cooper one for 60hp with 10.1:1 comp ratio and that covers both the english and Jap specs.
Cheers Pete

The Jap spec ECU for the late SPi coil pack engines (no dizzy, basically an MPi block) in the 1997-2000 cars are unique. They have a different part number to the other computers and do not incorporate an immobiliser.

Josh, good to know you have the diagnostic equipment. :)

Cheers,

I did see that, but one can only ask - it's always possible there's more info than is on the website. Progress not yet disclosed... And aren't there fewer differences between the pre-96 UK and JDM cars? So, if you could get a pre-96 (i.e. SPi, no airbag) JDM car complied, wouldn't it be similar to get a UK car complied? :? One can only ask such things...

Diagnostics shouldn't be too hard as OZCOOPER said he's got the gear. But you can probably get some of the gear too.

My dad does all his diagnostics for his TD5 Discovery himself. Not really to find faults more or less to clear ones that don't exist. But he can either plug the laptop in and have a proper go or use his little hand held one and reset faults, read off faults etc etc...

I tried awhile ago to find someone who could do a diagnostic on my 97 Spi... with no reply....
originally Brickworx said i could send the computer to them and they could install it on one of their cars so they could fault find and fix.
Does anyone know if there is someone who can do this? I live in QLD.
She still sometimes likes to rev low when coming to a stop (e.g. at traffic lights she likes to drop to 500rpm)
thanks

Deb

Do some searching on eBay. Dad got his gear from there. Someone was making portable fault find and diagnostic setups for various British cars a while ago, they were fairly well priced too. Alternatively you can also search for a a diagnostic program that does it (in fact the computer program that dad has might do it but not sure, I've never used it).

Id say theyre not too expensive, compared to what they do. Beats getting charged that every time you pay someone to do it for you.
