Got the local exhaust shop to make a new mild steel tip, nasty chrome one in the bin, the 1 3/4 pipe the chrome tip was fitted to had a restrictive bend in it , the local guys did a fantastic job at bending the pipe and cutting the angled tip just right, now I don't have an annoying buzzing drone at 60kph, its neat, tidy and quiet and has a nice note at part throttle and under load and , very happy "Snail" 8)

Ordered a fuel pump diaphragm for the Cooper S.

Years ago some silly young bloke (me 27 years ago) mounted the SU fuel pump in the boot. Now the diaphragm is leaking and there is a very fine mist of petrol spraying across the battery.

Whats going on here Morris? Are you getting the cooper s back on the road?

It is one of those jobs that has been on the back-burner for too long. I had the car on the road in 1982 but I was never happy with it so it was only used as a motorkhana and khanacross till 1988 till it started jumping out of 1st gear. So it then went into retirement and I usually only started the motor every two years or so. (sometimes more)
Last year I picked up a set of hydro sub-frames.
This year I spent a little bit of time cleaning the dizzy and a couple of other things and now I just turn the key and it purrs to life, so I am getting hooked again.

Today I fabricated a rotisserie and put the clubbie shell on it. Spent the next 2 hours getting all the fine grit left over from the sandblasters after turning it upside down. This is after spending many hours ages ago when it was right side up and thinking I'd done well removing about 3Kg of grit at the time.

My thanks :D :D goes to the ausminier who made mention of using engine stands for this purpose. I already had one but Super Cheap had a special on a couple of weeks back on a 500Kg stand for $78 so I got one, then got a piece of tube for $70 and a couple of gate saddles for $10 and utilising the scrap bits lying around along with heaps of nuts and bolts and casters, cut, drilled, tapped and welded and I now have an excellent mini spit ( and a better engine stand when I'm finished spinning the shell :D :D ). Not bad for 4 hours labour.

I managed to remove the locking fuel cap from the right hand tank on my Cooper S.

I don't think I have removed the cap for about 20 years. The left hand one worked fine but the right hand one was stuck solid. I soaked it in WD40 for a week and turned the key with a pair of pliers to get it unlocked.

Spent the day in that part of the map that says "There be dragons" - removed the passener side A panel and got a resonably good fit with the replacement with some juggeling. Cut out the reason for the replacement - a small rust hole on the inner - cut a patch to fit. - Now all ready to start cleaning up the surface rust, weld and zinc the inner panel.

I thought about washing off all the bugs that are on van from the Asparagus Job trip but instead backed it out of the shed, turned it around and backed it in again, opened the rear doors, cranked up the stereo, cracked a beer then listened to a bit off Alice in Chains while waiting for the AFL final to start.
I might wash it tomorrow.

Finally got back into it today. Started straightening out the front guards and planned more things that need to be done for the conversion. One day I'll finally get it done. One day....

Nothing on the Mini's today, but just helped a neighbour drop the gearbox out of his Lancia Fulvia Zagato, and lifted the body off the subframe (it's light!) so he could get the fuel lines out.

Nice car...
