Hey guys & gals, I've been running asbestos rear shoes (were NOS Better Brakes ones) for years because I thought they would be better than the current `asbestos free' stuff, doing track days etc.

Guess what- they're not!!
When I pulled them out they were all glazed and shiny, I put some new ones in and wahoo! it stops way better!
So go check- if they are past it, replace them. They really do help the brick to stop.. 8)

Yea previously when the disadvantages of asbestos were thoght to be only minor - such as a list of cancers that sonds like an oncology textbook index page, hereditary mutation, lung problems etc the verdict was still out on the whether it should be used but now when it appears that its slightly less effective in rear brake applications its quite clear that it must go back on the toolshed roof.

Hey Doc - if good back brakes do actually help to stop - does that mean that the KAD rear disk kit might actually be worth more than bling????

I was talking of around town, daily driving- the handbrake got better too!
Not track work.
Mind you the old asbestos linings (NOS) I took out were probably made in 1965 or so.. you should have seen the boxes they came in!
I still think the KAD rear disc kit is a waste of money- but.... guess it's your $$$$.

Measure your drums first--- could be standard (7") or +1/32", or + 1/16"... 8)
BTW drums use shoes, not pads..

I've got EBC blackstuff rears in, I swapped the 11/16 rear cylinders for 5/8 before wakefield, and it made a huge difference - they weren't locking anymore, and made the fronts feel much better around town and on the track (we know how well they worked there....)
