Clutch arm Perfect and so were the Pin's

so I took off the Wok to check the bearing. My Original thou was confirmed. No wonder it sounded noisy what the clutch peddle was pressed. So what I think has happened is th bearing was giving way and with the addition force required to press the clutch in the slave piston has broken the clip and then let the piston out

well the Timken 3W5/8 is best, if you can still find one.
2nd best is the 7W5/8 one like you have, with `made in england' marked on it (RHP bearing).
3rd best IMO is any other bearing of that type. Apart from the Jap JNL? brand in the yellow/black box. That one is my record holder- 3 friggin' days...

IF you can get them, the timken ones (I tried CBC but lucked out), if you are desprite, mini sport SA have them but they are $$$$.

Years ago when the timken ones dried up I used a 5203ZZ (CBC or any bearing shop will have them), however just check it against the thrust plate on your diaphram, that the centre of the bearing won't rub. If it does, you might want to grind the thrust plate a bit.

Current number of the Timken one is IR-127. Old number was 3W5/8.
It measures 15.8 x 48.8 x 15.8.

I suspect the ones that bearing shops are quoting now are the later crappy design. Which theoretically supersedes this Timken.

Thinking a bit more about the pic of your first class bearing here, I'd also suggest checking the thrust plate on the diaphram for scuffing. It could be that the wok is off centre to the centre line of the crank.

If you suspect that this is the case, probably the easiest fix with the engine in the car is to make the bearing a 'floater' as Leyland did from about 1975.

The current Timken Catalogue actually says it's a 614140. So now we can go on a wild goose chase for three bearings that are probably NLA...... :( :( :( :(

Hmmm I can't find anything on the IR 127 or IR 128..........

My Timken one is in a Timken orange/black box, IR-127 is printed on it.
On the back, Karcraft has stuck their 3W5/8 sticker.

Jim, get a couple of these from CBC (if they've got) and I'll make some sleeves up to fit them.
http://www.angular-contact-bearings.com ... 17_5mm.htm

If no can get, I'll import some.

One of our customers alerted us to this discussion about release bearings.

++++++++++++

A little bit of background about mini clutch release bearings.

The flat face bearing (3w5-8) was used from 1961 to approx 1975 when RHP introduced the bearing that we know today (7w5-8).

7w5-8 supercedes 3w5-8.

The 7w5-8 was introduced because this bearing could handle more "runout" of the flywheel than the original 3w5-8.

RHP stopped production in about 1975 of the flat face bearing.

Some 4 years ago a bearing company (IRB) started producing the flat face bearings. IRB were owned by Torrington another well known UK bearing maker.

Approx 18 months ago IRB was purchased by Timken - that why they were in Timken boxes.

We ordered 500 of the flat face bearings from the factory earlier this year but they were not interested - no matter how many we ordered.

We are at present sourcing RHP brand mini clutch release bearing for those who specify RHP.

Our normal replacement bearing are of excellent quality that we source from the UK and we have had no reported failures.

Hope this info helps.

I've never ever had a problem with the RHP ones. IMO they are the best of the 7W5/8 ones.
