I am after some suggestions on chokes and jets for a weber 45dcoe fitted to a 1275 . Engine modifications are unknown as i bought the car with this setup. I am guessing that the engine is fairly standard other than the camshaft which is reasonably lumpy and causes the centre two cylinders to run laim at idle. That might give the doc and others a clue.

Also wandering which books have the best weber information in them regarding jetting and repairs etc. I have seen the doc recommend one or two books but i can"t find the information.

All help and suggestions appreciated

Keith

Maybe showing some respect for the manufacturer would not go astray by first getting the spelling right- Weber, not webber.
Just a suggestion.

I have a few Weber and Dellorto books.
By far the best I found is `How to power tune Weber & Dellorto carburettors' by Des Hammill.
It has lots of jetting info for A series, which I found very close to correct on a few engines I built.

Howdy Keith,

Another good book I have, is the Haynes TECHBOOK Weber Carburetor Manual... It gives a little advice on tuning for differenet builds,,, but it also covers in depth the inner workings and how to over haul a weber... it also covers SU's, Strombergs, and Zenith. Its a great book.

Having said that, I have also seen the book that the Doc has mentioned and it looked good. But given the Doc's wrap, I think I will buy it the next time I get the chance. Des Hammil's books are alway pretty good, very helpful.

Des Hammill's Weber book covers complete teardown, identification, rebuild and tuning for all Weber DCOE and Dellorto DHLA sidedraft carbs.
It is a very good read, unlike my other Yank Weber book.

His book "How to power tune the BMC/BL/Rover 998 engine" (also the 1275 version) has basic jetting info for Webers and Dellortos too.

Thats true, I felt it was a little vague though (EDIT-> you did say basic I guess) . I reckon the other by Des that you just mentioned sound like a winner :) (a winner if you are just after info on carbies that is). Sounds like it covers the same info that I have in 4 seperate books ,, but probably a little newer than 1973

I'll definantly be getting it. Good one Doc :)

First thing i`d do is compression test the engine :-)

Thanks for the replies Doc and Phat Kat - Des Hammills book is ordered and in the post.

Mat the compressions are all even and good, no air leaks either. The engine just idles inefficiently with power balance down on no 2 and 3 cylinder, fine at revs. I am sure i have read somewhere that the doc reckons it is certain cam grinds and shared ports.

AEG163 sorry for upsetting you -- it was only a spelling error!

My 1360 (with 45 Dellorto, 38 chokes in) sounds fine at idle (considering it's running a bathtubbed head,`sprint spec' cam, and 20 degrees advance at idle) you wouldn't know that #2 & #3 aren't pulling their weight until you pull the plug leads off.
