I too have a sunshine that has been somewhat barstardized. I picked it up 12 years ago registered in Canberra and green in colour. Did I mention I paid $800 for it.
Since then I have made it mine with different colour, ripped the dash out, fitted a set of vdo gauges, and fitted an aftermarket seat. I cut a hole behind the back seat and fitted a sub.
I can hear the mini fanatics cringe
I have had an awesome time cruising in the beast, and the fact that it is a sunshine and has some value has stopped me from sending to the grave (like the traveller I had). Now undertaking rust repairs. Prob would do most of it the same again (except throwing things like dash and radio out, and prob wouldn't cut a hole for sub)

wow thanks for adding all the photo's everyone...

There's not going to be any rust problems with my sunshine.... Not with the work its having done.. every single millimeter of the entire body has been wire-brushed back to bare metal (inside and out) and we have cut the serious rust out and we are welding new sheet metal in its place. The roof has surface rust so we have treated that before applying rust-kill primer also (just to make sure we get it)

After todays efforts, we only have to brush the doors down, the engine bay and 2/3 of the interior and it'll be ready for shaping then finally paint!!!!

Feels so good to be so close, I can hardly wait!

Does anyone know of any black/white themed mini's i can get reference from? Oh, and can anyone recommend an online parts shop with fair pricing?

Ok, so when it comes to the paint stage of the project, what do you recommend.... 2pak or acrylic? I know that the 2pak is better (and more expensive) but can glossy finishes be achieved well with acrylic?

if you have access to a booth use 2k, if not then only use acrylic. acrylics you can just as good results as 2k.

This was done in Acrylic - imo you can't beat the 'period' finish of acrylic when done right. It needs a lot more maintenance than 2k though.

We just sold our 2nd car so now I have $3000 to put into it!
We were at a stand-still for a while as I got really sick from my current pregnancy and was in hospital for 2 months... not so much fun when you've got a diamond in the rough waiting for its ressurection...
Welding rear beaver panel and passenger A frame in this weekend then dropping it off to the paint shop next week for some high fill primer etc then gloss black baby!
I've got 5 weeks to get it on the road as the air force are posting us elsewhere at the end of next month... so its full steam ahead!!!

Will keep everyone posted with pics to come shortly...
Wish me luck!

Kristy

Where will you be posted to with the air force?? There's a guy on this forum who is also in the air force and is at Pt Cook in Victoria - did an amazing job on a restore of his mini so perhaps you will be neighbors :D
