I've got a set of Clubman Inertia reel seat belts that have been removed from a car. when removed they have wound so tight onto the spools they are not locked. They will not pull out as the locking mechanism kicks in.

Does anyone know the easiest way to repair the mechanism? Can they be taken apart?

You have to keep them upright to get them to unlock.
Have you tried mounting them in a car then trying it?

They need the reel to be pretty well horizontal before they will unlock. I'd grab the bracket bit in the vice, level it then try.

As well as having them dead upright you have to pull them out very gently when they are fully wound.
