Offset key is a woodruff key that's been made `stepped' ie. the bit in the sprocket is stepped sideways. Made in 1* increments from 1-9*. This allows you to advance or retard the sprocket on the cam.
Most performance cams are timed in at around 105* ATDC, to get this you often need an offset key, or adjustable sprockets.
I made a 10* key once, it's in Josh's car now- it was miles out before.
Many people just bung cams in without checking... and give away HP in the process.
