Ongoing work of re-trimming the rear of Hetty..

The new Vinyl has been layed over the old to follow the contours of the original so I can now add an accent colour where the original fitted. Not perfect but much better than the spray painted crud that was on there before. :)

Also refitted the bonnet and bonnet latch..

She should be mostly water resistant now on the inside.. ROFL..... :D

I droped off my 850 van sliding window doors to the paint stripper man to have them plastic bead blasted. And I fitted the rover wiper motor to the clubbie 1/2 cut never ending project mini. And I put 2 1100 blocks in the boot of the car to take to the machine shop tomorrow.

When we had Barney with the twin HS4s and #6 needles, it had what felt like a lean spot just above idle. I was running 10W/40 motor oil in the dampers.
GR and I took it for a run up the road with his A/F meter, and found it was actually too RICH there, not lean. Just for fun we took the dampers right out, and the mixture cleared up. So I went home and tipped the oil out. Ran it dry like this for all summer and autumn, no probs.
I did subsequently put ATF in it during winter, as it was tending to be lean. Typical SU....

Hehe - a damperless SU works nice, doesn't it? ;) The only downer on my carb is that it doesn't like to start very well, when cold.

competition bump stops at the back will help too

Will look at this after I get it back on the road and registered, running out of money! Do front competition bump stops help also?

No but the rear ones do make a difference.
Im guessing you have Std hydro bags in your car as the Coopers S silver band bags are much firmer. I find the front of my Cooper S does not lift as high as the Std mini deluxe.

Thanks, yes, I have std bags.
I think I'll order some front & rear comp bump stops... here goes the credit card again!

I've only had rears fitted, but you might find that the fronts simply get demolished by all the load put on them continuously from the weight of the engine and the diving under brakes. Keep the old bumpstops near to hand in case you need to change them out.

Thanks Mick. I've just ordered both sets from my favorite supplier  ... maybe I should pump the suspension a bit higher? Only joking. :)

I had both Front & Rear comp Bumper stops fitted to a Hydro. The front got smashed and put the normal ones back on where the Rears are still doing their job perfectly

Comp front ones are too high unless you are going offroad. They jack the car high, you will have positive camber + understeer.
I use stock front bumpstops and comp rears, it sits level and handles great.
I run std Pedders shocks on the front.

Thanks for the heads up gafmo & drmini. Since I have ordered the front ones as well as the rears, I will have to put the front ones on Ebay when they arrive.

I definitely don't want to make the ride any harder. :D
