Thread mine!!!!

The thought of re-building my engine is popping up again...

Just wondering if anyone has come across any small bore straight cut primary gear sets recently?

Also have a look at Swiftune

Nick Swift is to the UK racers what GR is to Aussie ones ....

He does a full set of roller bearing straight cut drop gears for £345.00

cheers

Ok cool, Ill give that a try.

This was M.E.D.S response.

Quote:
Sorry we do not keep the S/C gear set for the 998 engine. We normally take a set of 1275 and remove the rear bush and machine a new smaller diameter bush to suit the 998 crank add £40.00 to the cost of the S/C gear set for this to be carried out

I guess that would work ok? But Im sure I could get that done here if I just bought 1275 S/C gear.

Brad, there is always the option of swapping the crank for one with original step. I will have one to suit and we can work out the detail.

It would be pretty easy to machine up a floating bush (thicker than the 1275 one) so it fits the 998 crank. I could do it, easy as.
Problem is: the material, it needs to be silicon bronze as there is no real lubrication inside it. This is what the Minispares bushes are made from. But I have had no joy finding the stuff in solid bar or hollow bar form, here in Oz.

Jack Knight to rescue? It says its for 850cc? I would assume this would suit all small bore cranks? $450 for the full set, seems pretty well priced?

Do a bit of internet research before sending your cash to Jack Knight. They have had some problems with the online store.

I figured your crank was large journal, I will have a large journal 1275 crank to suit. And yes, I did suggest a larger floating bush, but as Kev says, problem will be getting the right material. All up, I reckon swapping the crank over will be the simplest in the end. The Mini Spares SC drop gear set will be your best bet, and with your mileage, wouldn't bother with the tapered roller idler gear type, just go for normal SC idler.

Is your box A+ with large idler gear bearings or A series rod change? If A+, suspect you will not get small bore A+ SC drops
