Here's my 77 GT then, whats it worth?

Is that one of those really rare GT's with the S badge on the grill....because that would make it a GTS and we all know what a Monaro GTS is worth and surely this must be rarer! If I hadn't spent all my money on the most original moke in Australia at $25,000, I would buy it from you! :P

Pffft, something this rare I'll never sell

Oh, look at all the sledging here...
Lovely people, Look, im no mechanical expert, Im just telling you, what the guy told me, years ago, when i bought it from him. I had all intentions of making this car, my 3rd mini, a piece of art. I just dont have the time to put in the work. As i said, when i purchased the vehicle the guy told me that it was built from a gt. If you have any questions about the car, please ask me and i'll happily tell you all about. Perhaps you should ask the seller instead of coming here and asking questions to people who havent even looked at the car.
I will state however, that the people here probbably have a good idea about the legendary mini.
I love this car,its most certainly the best car i have ever owned and driven and i certainly dont want to part with it, however circumstance prompts me to sell. I beleive what i have siad to be true, if you see a mistake in what i have said please tell me and i will correct my listing, and if no one thinks the car is worth it, then ye shall not have, and i will keep it in the garage for another time in my life in the future.

but why can't you just say in the listing

"this is a nice, fairly hot mini with a GT badge"

instead of the bits in bold trying to make it seem more than it is, which is a nice mini, at a good price.

That's the thing that annoys us...

Hello Again,
Well, as I said in the add, It is not a GT, but as close as you will get. According to the Mini GT page on the web, there is only 47 left in the world so they must be pretty hard to come by, and since this mini was built with GT parts from a wrecked GT, then it would be a close as you can get to an original.
I guess The 'GT' quote in the heading is incorrect, but it is an attention getter, as in all sales, a good headline catches attention. I do however state in the next line of the add, 'or as close as you can get', after this the add explains all about the vehicle to the best of my knowledge.
I also offer that anyone from the Mini forum is welcome to come and inspect the vehicle so as to see i am telling the truth.
Cheers
Rev Col

I think what the GT website tells you is that only 47 (it's actually 73) are registered. My guess is there'd be afew more around..... you might also want to correct your claim that only 500 were built. I think it's actually closer to 1,500 .....

One might argue, that like advertising "tricks", your ad is a little misleading given it's listed as a GT. ... but at least you've addressed some of the issues. Points for creativity too.

Good luck with the auction.

1500 may not be exactly right either as the actualy number made is unconfirmed. But from all reports it's somewhere between 1200 - 1500.

edit - also I think the number registered on Gavin's website (if that's the one you're refering to) was more like 73 (world wide) when I last looked at it.

At least he is admitting it's reshelled into a clubman, unlike that Cooper S someone else bought.

You don't really have to do any reading between the lines to work out what he is selling.

It is not a GT reshelled into a Clubman.

It is a Leyland Mini with a Morris 1100S motor.
What is there that is GT?
I can see a brake booster. (which was an option on any Mini)
I can see a right hand tank.
I can see a badge on the boot but what else is GT.

Of the "47 left in the world" you can hardly claim that car to be one of them. The compliance plate says it is a 78 Leyland Mini and that is what you should call it. To call it a GT or even a GT Replica is stretching the truth too far.

Last time I looked on the register (when it was up and running) there were around 200 surviving between Aust, NZ, and UK on the register. Yes, some even imported Oz GT's to the UK. Most of these were not registered.

Sorry, the Mini for sale on ebay refered to in this thread is NOT a clubman GT. It is a hotted up, modified Mini. There are a number of items that the car would need to be a GT, which this car does not. It may have some or many parts from a GT but that does not make it a GT or a re-shelled GT (what ever that might be).

Most people who are looking to buy a GT know what to look for and the way this car is advertised is not doing the seller any favours at all.

mines a 72 with an 1100s engine, so technically mines closer to being a GT than yours :P hah just messin. i understand that your trying to get attention by putting the letters GT in the title, but its not one so its only natural that your gettting slagged on a mini forum. gluck with the sale though

In the heading you are saying one thing and then in your description you are saying it is not what you said it is in the heading!

You cannot say it is as close to the real thing when it clearly is not. Ebay rules are fairly clear in not being deceptive.

You actually have a reasonable car at an ok price, just advertise it for what it is and that is a standard mini with some modifications including a GT badge.

Just a little clarity on the number in my post ^.

There were between 1200 to 1500 Oz GTs made, however the register of current owners and GTs today numbers around 200. It is likely there are a few more than this number around today (just not on the register) bt wouldn't be too many more.

Better to take all references to GT out of it. As Morris 1100 said, there aren't enough components to call it a replica and even if someone did have a GT that had some parts (not even the engine) swapped over to another shell, it is the other shell that gives it the identity. A rare car starts with the correct shell and goes from there. For example if someone has a bog standard 67 roundnose shell and gradually collects enough original cooper or cooper s bits to make it the same spec as a cooper, it is still not a cooper, just a 67 shell with some go fast bits added.

Kill the ad and advertise it as a 78 mini with extra bits. Good luck with the sale.
