Hey guys, i am in my early stages of pre-planning my mini rebuild and came to the point of asking myself about seats.

i have a 64 850, so low back seats would have been standard issue, altho it currently has high backs (bloody ugly looking 1's at that)

i like the idea of having retrimed low back seats, but am questioning the support they offer as i plan to have some what of a little rocket (13**cc s/c)

the car will only be a weekender (well thats the plan, i probably wont want to get out of it once i start)

or should i pass on the std seats and put something more supportive in??

once again i really do like the look of the low backs, but not sure about the neck/head support.

(P.S. i also have a bung hip and lower back)

I second the notion that low backs look a whole lot better than high backs.

I think any seat in good condition should give you support, but if you want mor support i would go for a race seat.

If you want a low back seat with style and support you can't go past the cobra classics.

This may not be the best place to buy them, but this is them

I second that. They are a great compromise between the 2, and you can buy mini specific seat subframes. For something really trick there are some seats made by Reverie for Lotus elise/exige that are entirely carbon fibre, really small and fit nicely into a mini. They not cheap but wiegh nothing and look awesome. Can also get stick on padding to prevent any slipping around on them if you decide to do some track work. They look like those seats in the Elise Club Racer, although come unpainted in carbon weave.

I like the high back seats in my clubby but mainly for when i go on long trips I can sit back and relax on the drive. I cant do that with the lowbacks.
For a weekend/track car low backs are ok, hell they used to do bathurst with them.

Go for something with some support or your back & hip will regret it.
I have reupholstered high backs, but would recomment the Cobra classics as they offer more support & would suit your car better.

To give the cobra classics a bit more protection/support you can get them with head rests. Never used them, but they still look hot IMO!

not that we like considering it, but the high-backs do help considerably in a collision.

I had a prang in a mini over 15 years ago, it had low back seats & my neck is the only thing still suffering from that accident. IOW if the high-backs with headrest would have prevented that...
