I bought a NOS Mini oil cooler on eBay a few years back. I doubted it being NOS but was assured it was. As soon as I unpacked it I could smell the old oil, see the metal polishing attempts on the aluminium body and usual wear and tear on the inlet pipe threads. The seller claimed ignorance and apologised. I got my money back but I'd rather not have gone through the bidding, paying, waiting game.

In my view the benefits of eBay still far outweigh the downsides. Just like walking around a city late at night - you need to assess the risks and stick to the 'safe' areas.

E-bay should be renamed "Place for sneaky b'strds-Bay".

Used to be able to just take your sword to them but those days are alas long gone....

I bought a pen with an extremely tiny rc mini on top of it. The not only charged 25USD for what was only like 5USD real postage costs, but they send me a pen with a porsche instead. What do a care about a porsche ??

Nothing serious compared to what the others in this tread experienced though.

Some people just aren't internet savvy

Sorry it didn't work out for you, bummer!

I have bought 2 mini's from eBay and have been wrapt with what I got. I got what the seller described.

Then I went one better and bought a motorbike from Belgium from eBay. Risky? you bet! This morning I checked out my gmail account and the seller dude sent me a movie of him starting the bike. I was stoked. In broken english, this French guy said hello to me and then started the bike and gave me the thumbs up.

How good is that!!!!! :)

come on more info what sort of bike? :)

Had great experiences and a couple of bad ones. Bought a set of genuine 1960's minilites that were poorly listed simply as "light alloys" I found them while looking for mags for my bmw. I was the only bidder and picked them up in boxes, never used. The owner bought them in 1960something but wrote the car off before they arrived. I paid $400. They are on the bathurst car. I also recently paid $10 for a "made in Aust" mini sticker. It never arrived, repeated emails have been unanswered. Not worth tracing up over 10 bucks. Thieving bastard.
My general impression of ebay now......Too many pple get on there. Pretty hard to get a bargain these days.

A few weeks ago i brought a Clarion CD player, reasonably priced, i payed up asap, seller was quick with the postage, a good communicator, no drama's, untill i went to bench test it,
Bloody thing doesn't work !!! So then begins the emails back and forth trying to get a full refund out of this guy, he's agreed to refund the brought price less postage ( he charged me $25 to post when it only cost him $11 ).Funny thing is that after about 10 messages i get the impression that he might of known that it wasn't working when he sold it .
Other than that i have not had any problems with ebay at all .

Awesome, thanks. Was thinking about putting my pride in my pocket and ordering another from him, but thought I may just be funding his retirement.
