Andrew's (although quite nice) is a Riley front on a rover shell and not an original elf.
Does it not have the correct Riley rear end or are you going on that it has rover type doors(mk3 ones have the later doors) as I haven't seen it I don't know what you mean big job grafting the rear on .
Ebay Riley has been sold.Apparantly the owner ended it early as he thought he was giving it away at $4500 and then put the price up

You know I can't actually remember... It certainly has the front end tacked on. It lives in the storage racks...but he did specifically tell me he had sourced the panels somewhere.

Does anyone know how many riley elfs in any condition are in the country

Getting back to the original question, I did a feature on a MkII Elf about 10 years ago and at the time I located a chap in Greensborough, Vic, who had an Elf/Hornet register. At that time he reckoned there were about 30 Riley Elfs (Elves?) and 15 Wolseley Hornets in the country. Since that time the numbers have increased a fair bit, but I seriously doubt they would even be double those figures yet. I have not been able to contact the register guy again.

Whichever way you look at it, the Hornet is the much rarer in Australia.

Both were assembled CKD in NZ for a time, and many of the Aussie ones have come from NZ. They were never available new in Oz.

I will have a small feature on the history of the Elf/Hornet in Issue 25 of TME, as 2011 is the 50th anniversary of them.

I love both - as much because they are a bit different - but prefer the Hornet. I love the way the bonnet badge glows when the lights are turned on.

That car that The Throttle Shop has used to be owned by Ron Williams (he did the repairs after it was damaged in a minor crash) and then Gary McGrath. When I photographed it back in 1998 for a feature on Gary's collection (Mini Magic #3 and Mini Magazine May 1998) it had 28,000 miles on the clock (apparently original). According to the Classic Throttle Shop it still only has 28,000 original miles, so I guess it hasn't been driven much in the past 12 years.

Cheers,
Watto.

Maybe it just went missing.

According to Jon Pressnell; the Hornet and Elf came with "a recirculatory heater (a fresh-air unit was supposedly optional, but was soon fitted as standard)..."

Cheers,
Watto.

Hi guys,
Mk2 and Mk3 (later in '66) Elfs were assembled here '65 thru to '69 and sold well. So far as I recall, Hornets were only assembled in '69 and there weren't many. They're far rarer here. Mk1 Elfs were imported built up, were usually two-tone and often had leather.

Regards
Al

The english import car should have a heater that was in the UK Mini Cooper and yes it did have leather seats etc

The NZ Built Rileys will have a gray NZ sourced heater, basically a box with a flap and a heater core.

I have a UK and a NZ built Riley Elf and tehy are quite different in the trim, grill.

Suttle differences but noticable once you look a little closer

Given that the grey Hornet for sale at The Classic Throttle Shop was originally sold in Hong Kong, it may have been supplied new without a heater.

Just a thought.

Watto.
