... probably thought we didn't need them down here in the "tropics"

NZ assembled Mini's, Elf's and Hornets were not assembled with a heater. They were a 20 pound money) extra but were often fitted free by the selling dealer.

Sounding more like an NZ build? So who knows what the Yellow / green colour might be? Anyone know NZ colours ? :P

This is an NZ car and is still registered in NZ. The colour is probably April Green, an NZ version of UK Fiesta Yellow. It will have all red trim and carpets. It was first registered in '67 so is probably a Mk3.

oops sorry Al, you posted between those comments, hope you still want to sell me those plates for my Hydro pump.

Feel free to have a pop back at the Aussies!

Great info on the Elf too!

I'm fairly sure that this car is in Aus now though?

My neighbour used to work in the BMC plant in Petone making Mini's etc in the 70'S.

I will go ask him what they did re teh heater. I do know they where locally sourced.

In the 60's, the heaters were Natra (National Radiator's) and specifically made for Mini's. I think that would have been the case until maybe circa 1970.

The one I just bought has a natra heater with looks like a piece of cloth on the face of it also the heater tap looks like it is made up from bits out of a plumbers shop

Yep, quite correct. Later Natra heaters with the cloth vinyl face had a demister toggle, earlier ones had two little doors on the underside for demist. The taps were a squarish bronze thing and usually had no cable attached. Because there was no fresh air blowing through the heater, they didn't need a heat control. You were expected to lift the hood and turn the heat on in winter and turn it back off in summer.
