I've always felt that straight out the back exhausts sound a little raspier than side exit. I figured its because I could theoretically look up the pipe and straight into the back of the extractors.

I've not compared identical muffler setups (straight rc40/side exit rc40) side by side however to back it up, so I might be mistaken.

Not sure which insurer you're referring to but I've been with shannons for 7 years and have an extensive modifications list. My premium did not change much going from the 1152cc to 1330cc, Weber, S brakes and all.

IMHO Anyone on here with a mini and not with shannons are really missing out...

I've just done this, They are both the same as far as I could tell performance wise and sound. Only difference wis that side exit is less smellier, plus it is difficult to achieve "sleeper look" with a center exhaust

I'm thinking a medium bore LCB will do the trick. Anyone selling or know where to pick up a good deal? The Perry's will be for sale.

Here in NSW I've found Karcraft's prices for a med bore Maniflow pretty good.
However I hear the Chinese knockoffs are better made- at least their flanges are flat! (unlike both my Maniflows were) Not sure who the agents are...

Description sounds right, but it's a KC102 in my catalog (feb 2010).

Yes the bore of these is 1-3/4, I just had a 1-3/4 OD pipe (what you have now) pushed inside and clamped when I ran the RC40 muffler.
On my 1360 or 1412 I use a 2" OD pipe slipped over the outside, but that is too big for your 1293 and Tighe 104 cam.

Check the flanges are flat before you bolt it in. They often are not, and the middle one will then leak.
I assemble them onto an old head (no gasket) then go round with a .002" feeler gauge. If it goes in anywhere I grind/file the flange until it doesn't.

Also check that the flanged are same thickness as your intake manifold flanges. If not and one is thicker than the other you won't get a good seal

If they are not the same (often the case) make some thick stepped washers. I will machine you some cheap if you give me the thicknesses.

i used my origonal non-stepped washers, and ground them down on one side on my bench grinder until the fit was nice. as i didnt have to take a massive amount off them to make them sit square it worked for me.

Bit of a late comment on this one, but I can 110% vouch for the improved note by changing from Perry 3-1's to a Maniflow 1-3/4" LCB (mine are the Chinese knockoff, and damn good they are too).

With an RC40 single box, the Perry's sounded good, but the LCBs are just sensational -- much, much more musical in the note. It's like there are two notes playing in harmony, rather than one... which kinda makes sense when you look at how the LCBs are set up ;)

There was probably 5-7 HP in the LCBs on my warm 1152, too... as an added bonus

...and what do y'all think the Perry's are worth? I'll stick em on the for sale section when I get back from Canada.
