I gather he was turning right coming from the opposite direction. I hope he took photos before they moved the cars.

Bad luck about the prang.

Perhaps 666 was travelling straight, and a vehicle turning right out of a side street struck him?

the other car was comming the opposite direction on the same road.

it was a VT commodore station wagon,

a dent on his bonnet (still closes fine)
slightly bent radiator support panel (radiator and condenser fine)
and reasonably scuffed bumper,
also the headlight plastic clips might be damaged as that fell out too

Who were you insured with 666?

If it's a specialist like Shannons or Lumleys they should allow you to keep the wreck.

Just make sure you keep track of where it is and repeatedly demand that you want the wreck if its written off. Otherwise they might send it to auction before you can blink. :(

NSW tried this and the premiums dropped for a year or two then doubled. In 1995 if you were under 25 and your car was over 10 years old, you got reamed.

When I checked the price for comprehensive insurance for my mini last year (values at $3000), RACT wanted about $1400/y. Best I could find was AAMI, I think, but that was still over $1000.

I just went with 3rd party property.

Get and keep control of the car. If you have it they have to come to you or you can leave it at a repairer to be assessed you do not have to hand over the car to the insurer. They can do assessments on the road (I work for an assessing company) Just get it home and tell them it's unsafe to drive. If they authorise the repairs they'll pay for the tow to the nominated repairer.
If you have the reciept of purchase and for any work performed that will increase it's value like rebuilt brakes etc since purchase, these will help an assessor work out your Pre Accident Value or PAV. once assessed the assesor will advise if it's a economic write of (ususlly over 50% of the value) a statuatory write off (unsafe to repair) or economically repairable. Once that is known the insurer will decide what to do.
Don't be afraid to stick to a reasonable figure for the market value and jump and scream blue murder if they offer less. be patient they will come round. being a car that isn't common they may take some time to get that value worked out.

Hope it all works out for you.

I know they sound dodgy .. but with my old car I was insured with Budget Direct $10k and only paying $700 a yr. That was full comprehensive as well.
