i just started building my cooper s engine, i had the machine shop drill and tap the other holes for the new oil pump, my old one had 3 screws in a triangle layout anf the new had 4 in a square pcd, after fitting the pump which had only 2 screws into the block top left and bottom right, i checked inside the thread of the other new drilled top hole and walla there was a hole in the back of the taped out hole which looks like it leads to a water jacket or something, so i pluged it with a bold and cut it flush with the block
i think if i had not done this i could have ended up with a milkshake maker

Lucky find. I usually only get the one extra hole drilled and tapped, so never had that issue. Good to remember.

Early S block you have there too. What specs have you built it to?

late cooper s head with 35.6 in and 31 ex , twin 1 1/2 su carbs , brand new metro turbo box with a 3.2 diff for hwy running

A bugger of a spot to be cutting a bolt off and then grinding it flat!

i actually ran a hacksaw blade around the bolt at the right length first, as i wound it home it snaped off and i had a little bit to make flush , done with a die grinder and 30mm dia flat cutting dics, iitty bitty cutting wheels are good for this stuff
i think if i had left it out the oil would have punched its way thru the thin gasket and ended up in the cooling system
