you normally just get it ground to the profile you want, don't often buy a cam outright.
My RE83 is on an 1100S spider drive cam, but I'm using one of Dr Mini's spade drive adapters. I took it out last night and the adapter isn't marked, neither is the spade on the pump
I meant just stick to one that it came with- which is a spider drive cam (i was expecting a pin drive pump so was surprised). And have been told that it is in good condition.

There is a MKI and MKII Cooper S Cam, these are different profiles. The GT Cam profile is same as MKII Cooper S profile, the early GT being the same Pin Drive Cam and the later being Spider Drive for the side cover-less blocks.
Just coming back to the 731 profile, the Police Spec GTs to SPO28 were fitted with this profile cam, only in Spider Drive.
I dont know..... I know its a spider drive pump and cam, ive seen it, and i was talking to Warrick Augustin and he said the GT's came with a spider pump (but would expect the real early ones with the 9F numbers to have pin drive) (he would have pulled dozens of GT motors apart in his time). He also said they changed the cam profile in the GT's (somewhere along the line) in an attempt to gain a bit more power (apparently the Cooper s was slightly quicker -most like due to shape). He said the cam that is in it is likely to be similar profile to the 731, said something about getting the profile of it and comparing it to the 731 for me.
He said it looked pretty standard bore but hadnt measured it (I cant remember asking if it had looked like it had been pulled down before) But im Sure it hadnt.

Thankyou Everyone for your input.
Well now im probably more confused than i was to start with
But from the previous i determine that the 731 is excellent in a small bore and ok in a large bore but there are better ones out there now days.
May just stick with the original spider drive camshaft, that i am told should be similar to the 731. (something with the the cams being changed slightly throughout production of cooper s/ GT)
Both the S cams are pretty harmless for power production, and by now they would be worn unless they have sat on a shelf somewhere for 40 years.

The early one had the same duration and lift as a Morris 1100 cam...

This was last regoed in 89, so hadnt been run for 20 odd years
I will have another chat to him and see what happens. Maybe i should go for a 544

(i know its old and there are probably better ones - but i didnt really want to get an RE13 because everybody has one. I want to be different. I will have a talk to him about what i should do)
