so back in the day heaps of people used to widen steel wheels...

i don't want to get into the debate about legality or not...

does anyone know of a company in adelaide that can widen 12" steelies?

i've got a set of Rover wheels but with my flares they look stupid on, but for trawling to work and back i don't really want to run my A032R's on my nice wheels, so was thinking some other wheels and rubber...

if i could get my steelies widened an inch they'd look ok. or would they be able to just reweld the centres into a different spot on the rim to change the offset?

Use spacers more safer and possibly more legal.....

Don't touch the rims, you will never be able to balance them properly ever again....

Mullins Wheels can re-centre wheels to most width rims you want. They machine out the centres (stitched or spot welded) and drop them into blanks.

Not sure on legal aspect of spacers.

Keep in mind, that too much off-set outwards increases load wear on your wheel bearings. (and the obvious guard clearance). Also consider hydroplaning in the wet.

Adelaide Wheel & Rim may still do them too. However, one-off jobs can be costly $.

Depends if you want side view looks or a meaty look from the back.

You used to be able to buy just rims from Mullins wheels and get your old centres
re-welded in.

The rims (actually called 'bands') in these small sizes are very hard to get a hold of. Recently, I went looking for 13 x 5.5" to have some Moke Wheels repaired. No one in Oz made them that small (in diameter) in more although, I think someone had some left over 6.5" ones.

In the end I scowered the wreakers yards for some Torrana Rims and even these were a little difficult to come by. Once I had the rims, my wheel man was able to do them easy as. The bands are all made to standards sizes, so your centres should fit bands from another vehicle that also uses 12" wheels.

These are banded to about 5", they have aquajets on them still on the rear, and it handles like a dog! - they will not be used for road use again.

Try Frank at Active Wreckers on main north road just outside Gawler, he has a couple of HB toranas with rims on them, From memory one had a set of either 5.1/2" and the other was 6" wide. One set had almost brand new tyers on them.

we did a bitumen motorkhana 2 years ago with Aquajets on the rear they were that old and hard they went down to the canvas after a couple of handbrake turns. We had to turn the wheel around 3 times within 2 hours

already rung him, he's having a look to find them....

he questioned the car i said mini, he reminded me to be careful of the centre hole size.

Anyone know if the HB centre hole is good for a mini?
