why didn't you two poke a piece of wire or something in the fuel filler hole to check the level?

Because that is too easy, I like to over analyse and complicate things :)

Changed the fuel sender float - I now have a working fuel gauge :) The old one was about half full of fuel too...

Also organised my workspace and the goodies I have to go in and on the car starting from next weekend (new gearbox, Maniflow, RC40, intake manifold etc etc etc..). The engine bay is gong to get a nice spruce up in line with the planned theme of the car in the process.

pulled out the wiper linkages and cleaned up the cable , greased it up and spent ages trying to get the silly thing back up on the drivers side.
raised the front 1/2 inch
fitted headlight rings
filled the tanks for the first time in 30 years
drove 3klm, for the first time on a real drive since 1979
and also did a handbrake slide into my driveway
my mini is almost ready, just need a mad matt tuneup

Doing some maintenance to the car to keep a couple of rust spots at bay.

Starting in the boot.

    Car on stands
    Wheels off
    Fuel tank out
    Battery out
    Cables out of boot
    Vacuum out dust.
    Wire brush some surface rust.
    Rust converter.
Ready to wipe out and paint boot tuesday.

Then on to the spots below windscreen and rear screen including patching a couple of pinholes in the front floor.

    De - rust
    Wire brush
    Dress file/sand
    Rust converter
Ready to wipe and fill Tuesday

After that paint etc. Should keep the nasties at bay till I do the full resto.

Changed the oil in my daughters Mini Clubman and found a tooth. :(
I think it is off second gear.
Looks like an engine out job coming up.
It will have to wait until after OZ50 and I build the engine for the project.

Absolutely nothing...however in the effort to kick the MGB out of the garage fettled the new shields for the V6 headers (through the inner wings) so can move on to prepping and painting the engine bay.

It's been a while since the last post, so I'll bump it. :P

I've been meaning to replace my battery in the Mini for a while, and now that I'm tuning my MegaSquirt and stopping and starting it all the time whilst trying to tune it etc the battery just can't hack it.

Bit the bullet and bought for $168 an Exide Extra X56C from Big W (later found out Kmart had it for $164). Car starts well now, plus 3 year warranty.

Removed what was left of the flairs from the van. :(
We had a little incident with a local flood effected country road on the way down to the Picnic at Hanging Rock car show.
I think we launched out of the first pot hole and cleared the second while airborne but the damage had been done.
Thanks go to the sump guard though. That took a beating.
Hopefully I'll get my new set of Wood & Picket style flairs on before the Sydney show. Probably won't be painted though.

Final preparations on the K mini for Oz50 Wakefield Park (& the HSRCA meeting the weekend before) - replaced the rear brake cylinders, replaced brake & clutch fluid, oil & filter change, grease, full check over, new battery and 4 new tyres.

Then the car trailer, new brake master & wheel cylinders to be fitted, re-pack the wheel bearings and check all lights, winch etc. Plan to leave here next Monday morning for the 3000km trip south.

I'm looking forward to catching up with some old friends and some new ones.
