Guys and Girls is it possible to replace the drums without needing to bleed the brakes..? ie. Is it just a matter of removing the retaining screws and withdrawing the old drum and throwing on the new drum..? My front drums are oval rather than round.

Also I am looking at getting the following replacement drums

Believe it is that simple, EXCEPT you should adjust the brake shoes after the new drum is installed.

you can change the shoes without
bleeding the brakes.you just need to
adjust the shoes.actually changed the
shoes on my daughters corolla yesterday

you should be able to, the drums come on and off without having to take off the shoes and getting into the plumbing

Hey Felix... shoes are pretty new... how about the drums. Can I replace them without touching any of the other components. I want it to be a "pull the drum off, put new drum on and adjust" affair.

sorry i misread your message.
the drums will only take a couple of mins
to change and then adjust the shoes.
have you scored the old drums or
are they oversize

depends if the drums are standard or o/s and wether the shoe's are standard or o/s

The front drums are warped from age and so are slightly oval. Under low speed normal driving its OK, but braking from 70km/h+ and the front end vibrates like mad.

The shoes are oversized from memory of the last time I looked.

fluid -> pistons -> shoes -> drums

slack the shoes
remove drums

replace drums
tighten the shoes

you dont touch the fluid or the pistons
so no bleeding needed
although bleeding brakes is easier than replaceing drums

all just been bled and new shoes put on. Just didnt have the drums to go on. Now that I know someone going to the UK for a week, someone is giving them a shopping list for Mini parts.

wanna you need the correct shoes for the drum if you have o/s shoe's you will have a problem getting them in to a standard drum

Is there an oversized shoe drum I am pretty certain that I have standard drums but with oversized shoes... Or is it more a case of someone having grinded the drums to fit..?

when your drums get old and scored they take some of the metel of the face and at a certain point you need to run a thicker pad so it will still make contact if the shoe is to thick it just wont fit and i would not get the drum over sized if it is brand spankers

When drums are worn the brake shops machine them bigger and supply thicker bonded shoes, radius ground to suit.
Stock drums are 7.000". Standard oversizes are +1/32" and +1/16" diameter.
