A potential new project has come to light, and need some info.
Preferably from people who either work in the industry, or have done what i would like to.

The car was written off over a year ago, for panel damage but could be easily.

The accident pre dates the new repairable write off lawws;

From what i can see by reading these new laws, cars over 15 years old are exempt from them (seems too good to be true)
And if the accident predates the new laws (before Jan 2011) and is re-registered within 6months of the new laws then it just needs to be repaired to the old pre-new law standards.

If that makes sense.

So if the car is written off pre Jan 2011 and is reregistered pre July 2011, then it's exempt from these new laws.
At least that's what im getting from reading this.

If anyone works in the industry, or has some experience with these new laws, any info would be much appreciated.

Worst case scenario, it gets cut up into a trailer.

still seeking info, making sure this doesn't get lost in the sea of crank arguments, err discussions.

I have re-registered a written off car that was over 15 years old, the insurance company (Shannons) had written it off and paid out the money, I retained the car, repaired it then re registered with the RTA.

I believe that the insurance company is under no obligation to inform the RTA of write off if the car is over 15 years old.

In my case, there was no big delay between registration, when the rego became due, I had already fixed the car, so simply renewed it!

The answer would be to check the viability with the RTA, I think you can check a vehicles status online.

Classic vehicles were supposed to be exempt.

make sure that you have a receipt for buying the wreck and document the repairs. After that it should be a blue slip and Robert is your mother's brother ..... :wink:
