It seems to fit on ok and should do the job, but all the bolts i try seem to be the wrong thread or are too short.

Any help?? :? :?

That's all you need to do, sort out the correct bolts for the job.
A trip to a bolt supplier with the right lengths of hi tensile bolts required will solve the problem.

Those pullers are great for in the car clutch out jobs, and much sort after as well.

Yes that's all you need. Usually people keep a set of bolts with the pullers to fit different clutch set ups.

Oh, and they're 3/8UNF from memory.

that looks like a nice puller - hydraulic / grease filled

correctamundo

just go to a bolt shop and buy 3 of a couple of different lengths - they'll only cost you a few dollars

Those Coxhead pullers are the ducks guts. There is nothing better. I wish I still had access to one!

Buy good quality high tensile bolts. You will also need some thick flat washers to stop the bolts pulling through the slots.

The pullers came with two sets of studs and nuts and washers as well as a little pad that sat in the end of the crank to push against.

When the flywheel comes off it will really come off. Keep your feet well clear of the drop zone. They work best when doing a clutch job in the car because the inner guard stops the flywheel from going too far!

I am looking for a flywheel puller for my Mini. What do people recomend?
Would this be strong enough for a Mini or am I better off getting a specific Mini one?

https://www.gasweld.com.au/products/594272

It says it will do Flywheels as well.

Probably not too bad. You could get a lot of use out of that kit.

Here is one from Minisport.AU http://www.minisport.com.au/prod178.htm

My one is probably a little bit thicker but it gets the job done. I use a heat gun on the flywheel to try and expand it a little as I apply tension to the puller. I don't know if it helps but it seems to.

I have been thinking of building a hydraulic one like this bloke did...

Here's mine, fitted;

The studs that come with it are Grade 10 Tensile and because you don't have much feel with it (they can exert 12 tonne force), it it very esy to break bolts of a lesser grade, so I'd strongly recommend Cap Head Bolts are these are Gr10 or 12 with some HT washers too. They are 3/8" UNF x 4" long.

There is also the stub or plug missing, it going in the end of the crank so you don't bugger the thread.

It is the bee's knees, especially with steel flywheels on the car.

It might do the job, but if you get one that has been fitted properly, then no, it won't.

There is a good "how to make a flywheel puller" over at the moke place... http://www.moke.com.au/moke-tools/454-make-a-flywheel-puller

there is a "how to" on these forums as well.

worked well for me, however the flywheel was that tight i had the missus hanging on the end of a Scaff tube.

If the flywheel is that tight, when you've got full tension on the puller, just give the flywheel a tap (NOT hard) through the starter motor hole.

Took me a week to get mine off - I bent a couple of long breaker bars so I just left the tension on and each night and morning gave the wheel a tap and tightened it a tweek. One night I came home from work and went to give it a tweek and it was free 8) Luckily the engine was on a stand with it at a 45 degree angle with the flywheel up so it was just sitting there. Oh and lots of WD40

That's why I started using the heat gun as well. It seems to work so far. :D

I've used one of those - may as well have been made of cheese. Flywheel laughed at it.

All this talk of wheels flying off.... length of chain between a couple of the housing bolts fixes that.
