hey guys,

I've got 1275GT that the previous owner had a megajolt in. At the moment i've got the standard 1275GT 3 instrument cluster and the tacho isn't working. Its my very seat of the pants understanding that I can't use the original smiths tacho with a megajolt, is that right? if i can't use the smiths one, can someone recommend a brand or model to use?
cheers
Mike

I'm running a smiths tacho with my Megajolt and it works fine (it is an aftermarket one though and only about 2 years old).

If it is a RVI - current sensing type (I don't know for Clubbies) it can be done with some stuffing around. See here on the Megajolt site.

you can use it with a normal tacho, but you need a stepper motor in the wire harness to make it work right.

I don't think the clubman tacho is an RVI type, I think it's the middle one linked to the page above

There were two different types fitted to the squarenose Minis. I think the early ones were RVI and the later ones were RVC.
I don't know when the change point was, could it have been about the time they went from the screw on speedo cable to the clip on cable? My guess is about 1973.

ah... you're in NZ so it's a UK car

a guy on the turbominis forum wrote:
I ran the mjlj tacho out wire straight onto the back of my standard 3 clock rev counter, and it works perfectly straight off.

I connected it to the pin that previously had the black and white wire running to it (from the coil)

i meant a Tacho driver motor for coil-driven tachos.

but he would need that.
