im wanting to fit central locking into meeni, but looking at the mk1 doors it seems like it may be tricky... has anyone managed to do it? i dont mind a little bit of modifying to make it happen... if not il have to just fit an alarm and use the key to lock it but i like the idea of central locking and an alarm better, especially now that i have alot of money invested in the car...

another question, how do you get mk1 handles out? i havnt looked lately but last time i tried a couple of years ago i remember i gave up cos it was too hard to get in behind them (wind up window doors)

It's been done, someone on here (Angelo) years ago used 2x LH door handles and fitted solenoid operated shotbolts through the B pillars into the doors..

Well, the install looked good and worked well... no Bean padlock and external latch.

That's the only option really sliding 850 windows? That's what I would do as well.

It can be done to any mini door.
An 850 door is easier than a deluxe door, no need for shot bolts in any setup either (its more secure, but not needed).

There is a handy manual on removing door hardware in the sticky section.

It is possible, Its just a lever basicly, You will need a heavy duty solenoid. Your average super cheap $50 kit wont have the torque required.
You will also need a good condition lock.

I have not seen the Mk1 door internals so I don`t know how much diiferent from Rover ones but I have installed a remote control central locking to mine.

Sliding windows, no chance would need to shoot a hole through the door.

I have said they're wind up windows, no ones actually said how they did it? And il be putting a viper alarm with gps into the thing with the best actuators, not supercheap spec

Don't know what you're all on about - both my MK1's came with central locking as standard - I can easily reach the passenger door from the drivers seat and lock and unlock it,

Meeni, if it's the door handle with the locking mechanism integrated into the handle/release itself it's pretty much impossible, from what I've already read on Ausmini.

Central locking as a concept is all well and good, but you're talking about whether or not a particular application of that concept will work under your circumstances. DrMini's suggestion of the tried-and-tested bolts through the pillar method is "central locking" - it just achieves it differently.

The Viper set, while not $50 Supercheap, will still use the same type of actuators which are designed to push and pull a rod.

If you have rods, you win. If you don't have rods, you lose.

You can still hook the Viper alarm/central locking brain to the pillar bolts - you just wire them in, perhaps behind a relay if they use substantially more current, where the normal actuators would plug in.
