can I put K&N pancake type filters on top of the air horn elbows on my twin SU's ?
Has anybody done this ?
I dont want to take the elbows off , so I can put my original air box back on when I want to

In short, no.

The back of the filters have the two mounting holes that match up with the carby without the elbow. If you're clever, you might be able to make a spacer or something that goes in between.

Why would you want to swap between them? Chances are it will change the tuning slightly, as allowing more airflow will cause it to run lean, and restricting will cause it to run rich. Why not just have one on the whole time?

Those elbows also restrict HP, according to Vizard.. you might gain a neddy or two if you put the filters straight on. Or, use trumpets and socks.

If you do fit K&Ns straight on, I make Bling alloy stubstacks to suit these.

Yep I make them for 40-42-45 Weber and Dellorto,
also HS2 and HS4 SUs, with either Ramflo or K&N filters.

I don't make them for HS6- it's easier to put the carb in a lathe and machine a radius in it.

They're pretty easy to identify if you know what to look for. HS2s, HS4s and HS6s are pretty much the same, except the inlet sizes are different. 1.25" for HS2s, 1.5" for HS4s and 1.75" for HS6s.

You can also get Hi38s and Hi44s - the inlets are 38mm and 44mm. They have the float bowl integrated to the carby (instead of being mounted to the side), so they look a bit different.

I imagine you have twin HS2s - just measure the inlet diameter to be sure.

HS2s have two vertical mounting holes (as do HS1s), 4s have two diagonal holes and 6s have 4 mounting holes..... not to be confused with H4s - which also have vertical holes...

Cheers, Ian

The bolts are 5/16" BSW Unbrako socket head capscrews.
No spring washers used- just use a drop of loctite.

If ya buy my stubbies I will supply bolts..
