If the helicoils I'm using are longer than the threads I'm coiling will this cause me any problems. I can't get into the back of them to trim off the extra length sticking out once I break the tang off.

I was thinking it wouldn't matter.

I could trim the end without the tang on it or should I even bother.

Hi Fiji, it is not ideal trimming the front of the helicoil but it can be done. If you can`t start the screw / bolt in the helicoiled thread just pull the helicoil out and put a shorter one in. I think you can buy them in lengths of 1xD, 1.5xD or 2xD.

I recon I can trim with not too much pblem. I have a dremel which I'll use to clean the thread up nicely .

It would only matter if the excess on the inside is going to foul on something. Otherwise I can't see why it would be a problem.

Exactly what I was thinking. There will be no fouling on the inside.

I did a test coil with the excess hanging out on some scrap. There didn't seem to b a problem upon cranking up the bolt.
