Lets say u had a bolt hole in the side of the block were the stabilizer goes. And had been completely butchered could it be welded up and redrilled

yes , pre heat the cast iron, use cast craft welding sticks, weld her up and let cool slowly too, cast is soft to drill and tap, maybe look at helicoil kit

I would not weld it you are making hard work for yourself.
Could helicoil it as said but IMO it's better to drill and tap it to 3/8 UNC and fit a bigger, stronger bolt. Only other mod is drill out the 2 brackets and the spacer. Won't strip again...

I have a block I need to fix in the same place, for the same reason... I know someone who can do spray cast iron that I was going to get to do it, but sounds like there are a few options

this is about manifolds, but interesting - preheating and slow cooling is the key to it

My mate Dave bought a Minivan recently , the back steady bracket bolt on the block is sheared off flush and the front one had an 8mm bolt in its few remaining threads.
And, the steady bar was broken and welded 10mm short, also the top steady bar replaced with a bit of flat steel bar! between the manifold stud and the firewall.
Engine mounts seem to be Morris 1100 clutch end ones- have no lateral stiffness.

Short story: we thought of making a Minispares style bracket but eff it, are now going to pull the motor out and fix it properly.

The 2 tapped holes in the block are in the same place regardless, measured up from the gearbox...
