It is the right number.

yeah the 99H is UK 998, and 119 means a matic.

(I have an early 1100S auto block and it too has the 119 code).

12`YEAH' - (as in 12YE/A/H) I have 2 of those, both 1300 auto blocks..

Yes , the Morris Nomad 1300 still went through to 1972 and stock was there to assemble but they never built them from scratch and painted them

Gold was used on Mini K and Morris 1100. Not sure if same gold...

I found this in the "Mini Experience" Mini K article.

"While the engines for the Morris 1100 were painted gold, the Mini engines all became the light green metallic as used on the Cooper S."

http://miniexperience.com.au/issue-18/mini-k.html

So... this just tells me that the Mini K was light green metallic. It doesn't tell me what the 998s were.

Well it may have been repainted gold in the last 40+ years. My mate's Mini K has a gold engine, maybe it was repainted too then.. :?

Im sure that the original colour of the engine should be that metallic green BUT the paint on my engine looks to be that gold colour.

It is the original engine so.... (numbers match).

I just want to confirm what it should be. It's an Aussie 68 Mini.Matic.

I have these old pics (1980's) of my dad swapping a worn out matic with one he had reco'd.

The one furthest away that he is working on is the one thats just come out of the car and that car was a Mk1 style matic, I think late 68, and I seem to remember it being a gold colour and it looks gold in this pic.

SteveOB's is also late 68 so my bet would be the Gold metallic is perhaps correct.

The one closest is the rec'od one and it's ready to go in. That motor came from a later Matic in the Mk2/K style and although Dad has repainted the block an olive color I think the rocker cover and flywheel cover is original paint and to me looks to be the a light metallic green colour.

Sorry hard to tell in these old pictures.

This is the later model motor about to go in. Light metallic green rocker cover, still has the hot run test sticker.

Do you think my local auto paint shop would be able to detect the colour if I take in a sample? Maybe I do that.

I would ask John Smidt at Mini King. He would know which it should be. He stocks tins of the right engine paints too.

The paint on yours now would be faded so the match at a paint shop won't be quite right.

Don,t focus on the green as a color , its actually shades of bronze green , the color chart I posted does,t show the true color as you would see it under natural light

Engine paint lives in a harsh environment and has a lifespan , my 1100 is bog standard factory never been removed from the engine bay and has very, very little Leyland Engine Blue left

as has been stated before over 40 years cars and engines have different lives and different colors

It would be better if you got a sample of my 1275 auto , it still got solid patches of 222 Light Bronze Green , once you,ve got a sample it,s just got to be shade darker to be the right color for a 998 auto

He has a gold auto - I think it was normal on the 998 as I've seen a few golds?!

If you want, call Ivan Glasby at minispares and repairs Castle Hill

We recently put a matic back together which has 5000 original miles on it

Everything was perfect factory standard - I can't remember the colour of the motor though - He should remember if you call him
