Fitted a few more bits...

Fitted the gear lever mechanism, those pins are a pain , espacially when I had to remove the extractors to fit the bolt holding the top gear lever support to the gearbox..

Now to fit the exhaust when i am allowed out from Christmas celebrations and family matters :)

Got the last bits of felt in the passenger door, dropping the quarter glass in the process, chipping one of the door hinges. Tried to bleed the brakes and ran into a little problem. I ' accidentally ' unscrewed a bleed screw too far and it fell out. When I screwed it back in I mustve threaded it as now it won't do up tight and i cant get it out.

Got the van running again thanks to help from Trevor. Combination of timing and fuel issues. It runs, but still need to advance the timing abit more which will involve removing the dissy shaft, atm its hitting the flamin starter motor, but is running ok. Hooray! Thanks Trevor, old hands never loose it do they.

Fitted the new fuel pump and the new exhaust system but discovered the bend in the link pipe needs to be changed slightly so now I am looking for an exhaust shop near Hornsby that may be open this week

Retimed the distributor and finally got the engine to run without overheating.
Newly recored (3) radiator is keeping its cool.
Will need to shorten the carb spring to finally bring down the idle to 1,000.
Sounded great.
Now to refit the last universal after pulling the upper balljoint and finally she can come off the ramps.
Will refit the wooden dash now that the car is running well.
Closer to rego at last.

I use a silicone-based gasket cement (Permatex, I forget which one) here, it's the only place on the car I do. The thermo housings and head faces are getting pitted now after all these years, and don't seal like they used to.

New thermostat housings are available new and will solve your leak problems
If the are not too bad then I usually file the face flat but if they are corroded around the stud holes then they are due for replacement

Went to Supercheap and spent my christmas gift cards. New battery and other bits and pieces
Went home and finished connecting most of the wiring, connected the new battery and woo hoo I have lights, camera , action.......
Next to finish connecting all of the engine bits and drive shafts before I can start the engine in the car for the first time in 5 or 6 years

Assembled the drivers side drive shaft with pot joint and cv and then discovered I couldnt get the pot joint to fit thru the subframe hole :oops
So after trying to remove the new cv joint and failing I managed the force the cv end thru the subframe after compressing the rubber cone
:(
So one side took 3 hours and the other side took 30 mins
