I'm doing up a Moke and we often drive on soft sand, we've never got 'really' bogged but I figure if a LSD will reduce the risk, while I'm doing lots of other work I might as well spend a few extra $ and have peace of mind.

I've had a search regarding choice of Cross Pin vs Salisbury vs Quaife diffs. But most discussions relate to fast road use, and fast corner handling.

I'd like to find out which type of diff would be best to avoid getting bogged :)

ATM i'm thinking Quaife as I understand the Salisbury plate design may be affected by oil viscosity, and are also more aggressive with steering whiplash. I also think the Quaife is guaranteed for life, whatever that really means.

The quaife won't lock up completely. If you have one wheel with no (or very little) traction, and the other on a solid surface, only the wheel with no traction will spin.

That said, Quaifes do have a very good reputation for dirt motorkhana work where both wheels are on the same surface. When doing a turn with an open diff where the inside wheel would get all the drive, and the outside wheel would do nothing, both wheels get the drive and traction is vastly improved.

A cross pin diff is not an LSD at all, it's just a stronger version of a standard open diff

The cross pin would be of no advantage in sand as Simon says.
If it is only for beach type driving I would save the money and go for a "Fred Sayers" type diff. They are quite effective on sand without the drawbacks of a locked diff on the road.
