Mate is working on one to run Bowen to Port Headland - Just think Coal one way -iron the other and smelters each end. So simple it's a wonder no one thought of it before.

I'm surprised it would be that high. I have little experience with transporting companies, but I have towed a horse float from the south of Tasmania to the north and back (a return trip of about 700km), and that cost about $130-$140 in fuel in the trusty (rusty) hilux. If you're transporting 1500km (guess), that would work out to be less than $300 worth of fuel (each way, of course).

Yeah, I know, running a truck costs a lot more with rego and paying the driver and such, but I thought the purpose of the big trucks was to reduce the cost of transporting large items. It seems strange that someone with a diesel hilux and a car trailer can probably do it for half your quoted price and still make a reasonable profit out of it. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Stretch's Towing moved a non-running car from Sydney to Hobart (door to door) for $1100, give them a try.

I'll disagree here. Not the case mate. DRNCOOPERS and people like myself can appreciate the sheer running costs of a truck. We own 4 Heavy Rigid's and to do a trip like that would easily be that. Our rego and insurance for just the 4 trucks each year, is something like 20,000... thats even before you step onto the roads.. add fuel, oh and what happens if you blow a tyre or two on the trip? Do you know how much a tyre is for a large truck? kiss your profits goodbye if that happens..

You have to understand that unless we can find a job that matches, your destinations, time, and dates, it works out to be no cheaper than doing yourself.

Running trucks interstate on the cheap only works if you have a huge amount going from A to B that will fill the truck, OR.. if you are completely flexible with your moving dates and can wait until another job/s comes in so that you all can share the price.. its called backloading   im sure you've heard of it before...

9 times out of 10 people in this world want everything now... or in the coming weeks.. errr not good enough... expect things now.. expect to pay the sheer costs..

not having a dig at you, but unfortunately that's the way it is.

thanks I was not going to bother to explain , yes backloading from melbourne, sydney or any city where something is manufactured is always a factor in transport pricing, and I will be looked down upon for this next comment but don't care too much, I just fitted two new steer tyres to our b-double @ $2480.00 more than what some mini's are worth.

I moved a car from Wa to Qld $1100

I moved one form tasmania to qld $1053

i moved a non runner from melb to qld for $600 cash

try movingcars.com.au call them and ask them to put you onto some one.
they only do runners but have hook ups.

all minis

I think the price you have been quoted is bullshit.

keep looking.
