Another thing is don't assume the clearance is right with standard ones, check it by puting a dial gauge on the end of the crank and prying the crank to and for.
The book says .003" but if you are going to rev it you want more than this. (I found this out the hard way).
I recommend use .005" for smallbores and .007" for bigbores. A little more if it's a race motor.
