Hi, im trying to install a bush for the rod gearbox steady (the one on the diff case) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MINI-MOKE-RO ... 0436839366
the engine is in the car, which is probably making things more difficult.
from my initial attempt the bush seems to be too big for hole
the engine is an english 1275
If anyone has installed one of these, is there any tricks is there a smaller size bush? have i bought the wrong bush?
thanks ryan

Hi Ryan,
I have a special adaptor and a bolt to pull the bush in. It's not overly tight in the diff housing. I'm wondering if the outer wall of the old bush is still in there. When it is out, there are two wings on the housing and the bush passes through one, into the open centre area and then engages with the second wing. Is there something between the two now or are they open as described?

Regards
Al

These things are a PITA.
It's hard enough with the motor out of the car.... :x
I have rebushed a few with lurethane (left the steel sleeve in there), at least then it's not allergic to A series sump oil like the rubber originals.

There is only one sized bush. I've made a tool that is basically a short length of 8mm threaded rod and a nut that I've machined to be slightly smaller in diameter than the OD of the bush. A spacer goes on the other side and a normal nut. This will press them out. I use the same 'tool' to press them in, only I swap out the special nut for a normal one and a stepped washer (it's stepped so you can get it right in).

What ever you do, Don't hit or bash it.
