some of you may remember that i had a problem with my car about 2 weeks ago, well i finally found out today that i need a new gearbox and engine mounts. :cry:
is replacing the gearbox a hard job, where can i get a new one from and how much are they
its a 1275.

i am sure you dont need a whole new gearbox man. Replacment parts are available.

What is wrong with your box, and yes it is time consuming. Not that hard, But the motor and engine all has to come appart.

$1100 buck for a new box from mini spares at padstow that a MK2 with hardy type steel output shafts. or u could get a rebuild kit from the uk for about 250 but they are on back order.

a guy at hurstville that said the bearings were old anr rusted and stuffed up one of the gearbox shafts.

"New Gearbox" is a pretty broad statement for a mechanic to make. I'd say he either doesn't know the problem, wants a blank cheque for work done or wants to take you for a ride. I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who can recommend someone else a bit more scrupulous for you to take your car to. I've got a guy at Merrylands, but someone else may be able to recommend someone closer to you.

i'd say theres not many gearboxes around that don't need rebuilding these days.

mate where are you located? Mini Spares and Repairs in Castle Hill are good (the best attestation to the fact is that Ivan is always booked 2 weeks ahead).
