Hi guys..
I have struck a small problem with my mini.
I changed the oil and filter last week with some new 20w50 and the car has been sitting in the garage having a few small things done to it.. Like fitting a 13 row oil cooler.
I finished fitting the cooler this afternoon and fired the car up for a test drive.
I drove up and down the street and noticed a lot of smoke coming from the engine bay.
From having a nosy look in and under the engine bay, oil seems to be gushing down the bottom of the exhaust manifold and burning.
I think it could be coming from the drive shaft oil seal.
Even when the car is idling oil is streaming down.

I have made a short video to help explain the problem.

Did you change the rocker cover gasket or pushrod cover gasket at all, and is the rocker cover cap in good order?
Diff seal would have to be well and truly dead for it to be that bad, and if there was no sign of it before its not normally something that would occur without warning.

I have not changed any of that and there is no oil dripping from the back.
At first i thought i might of over filled the car with oil because i added the oil cooler but the dipstick it below full.

I was having a think before and there might be an explanation for the seal breaking..
I was using an air powered chisel to force a socket onto the busted lock nut.. Perhaps the vibrations had something to do with it.

Cover the area with baby powder after you've cleaned it. Should show the leaks better.

Rocker cover gasket has popped in, allowing oil to pour down the back of the block past the manifold and onto everything below. Been there, done that.

A quick, easy fix. Make sure you thoroughly clean the rocker cover with thinners/petrol/solvent and glue the new gasket to it. Let the glue dry before refitting the cover.

Retrace your steps Danny, it wasn't leaking before , but now it is , what have you
changed , removed / replaced ? . Follow the leak from the bottom to the top and you should find your leak . From the vid it appears to be pumping a fair bit of oil about so be careful when you run it , make sure you have enough oil on the dipstick .

It certainly is possible that the Rocker Cover gasket has moved as" awdmoke" said , if so
it will p!ss oil down the back of the engine .

Hi guys,
Sorry for not updating it sooner.
I found the problem...
The plastic pipe that runs from the oil pressure gauge to the block got caught under the manifold and must of burnt a hole in the pipe and oil was gushing out onto the driveshaft /cv joint in turn spinning the oil onto the exhaust manifold.
Easy band aid fix was just the plastic hose.
I am off to ripco to see if i can source another pipe / fitting.

Does anyone know places that are open on a Sunday located in Sydney that can make up some oil cooler pipes? I purchased a clubman oil cooler pipe for the mini and its a bit to long and the standard pipes are not long enough.

Why would you possibly need an oil cooler in Sydney in Winter?
You don't even need one in Summer.

Your oil will not work properly if it is too cold.

I rather have an oil cooler on my mini just in case...

well its already on there and i don't want to take it off.
I have also thrown the transfer pipe out.
