Hi smac,

NZ$100K is quite a modest budget when building and running something like this car and I am sure there are many who have far exceeded that and got nowhere near setting a record. In fact, I think they have achieved brilliant results on quite a limited budget and they deserve nothing but praise, admiration and respect.

Regards

Al

We agree completely.

"How to make your 1Litre A-series go over 250kms/h"

Vizard never got that sort of power

It wasn't a big ask to chip in and help these guys. I will do anything for a T shirt plus I have my own '64'.

watching that video - the tacho gets a little bit over 9000rpm - by my calculations it'd be a 3.44 diff, so nothing special, just a lot of revs (edit: 950rpm is exactly 156mph, so it must've tapped 9500rpm)

so like I said in an earlier post, the 970 may be the best engine for doing that sort of speed - no torque, but big bore, short stroke so if you can feed it enough air, it'll rev like all hell - the BMW head gives it awesome breathing, and pick the right turbo that won't run out of puff at high rpm

Has anyone done the math as to how much horsepower is needed to push a mini to that speed?

Obviously the engine is far from stock. But still, what an astonishing achievement!

According to their Facebook page, Project 64 had 282 bhp at the flywheel on gas (petrol) 310 on Methanol. Record was set in IBGCC so petrol.

Al '66S' tells me (on another forum) they had 3.22 F/D they have a push truck to get them going off the line. Look like bigger than 10" rims to me.

:P

I believe they are 12" tyres, with the same rolling radius as 10' tyres.
