Where is the year of manufacture recorded on a mini? I have bought a 67 Morris, but how do I know it is a 67 and not say a 65?

I can't find anything on the ID plate to determine year, does anyone know how to determine the year?

cheers,

CJ

On early cars it is not specifically recorded but there are a few ways to work it out.

From the ID plate if you have the model (type) and the car number then there are forum members who may be able to narrow it down for you. There were also minor changes to panels and pressings over the years.

Another method is the date on the wiper motor plus a few months assuming it is the original (many are).

Sweet, I have trolled the forum using Google and I think I have found someone who may know based on their previous posts. So I have sent Morris 1100 a pm to see if he can help.

As for getting more numbers off the car, I will have to wait till it is delivered

Sweet, that explains the paint codes well :)

it does however make me think my mini is maybe a 66 as it was listed as special burgundy in 67/68?

PM answered!

There was two different burgundy paints, yours would be the second one.
They had a bit of a problem with durability of some of the 66 colours and they revised them.
Burgundy in 66 became Special Burgundy (or Spec Burg Red or Burg Red on some plates) in 67/68.

Was the old and improved burgundy very different? The later burgundy looks to be slightly darker on the colour charts.
