Greetings all.

I put a set of the blue hinge gaskets on the doors a couple years back. Had nothing but trouble. I've tightened them up a couple times. Seems the blue paper/gasket type slip.

Has anyone used something better, like rubber sheet? I was thinking maybe a squirt of Sikafex (as well) to help lock them into place.

I don't want to "cave the door in" tightening them again and again.

Alex.

Hi Alex

You could try hard plastic from an old oil container or ice cream container or similar , select the colour you like.

I havent tried this but i intend to. I believe other people have used this.

The beauty of it is it doesnt compress and deteriorate like your other gaskets do. Hope this helps

Regards

Thanks Guna...

I'll look around for something with a little grip. I was thinking a trip to Clarks Rubber for something UV stable and strong. The paper ones just slip and drives me nuts.
Thought for sure others may have dealt with this?
Cheers
Alex.

I'd use icecream tub plastic, as suggested.

Watch it using rubber now, 90% of it comes in from China and is absolute rubbish. UV stable rubber? Not most rubber these days.

Example- 2 years ago I fitted nice new oval rubber gaskets to my windup door handles. Bought them here too. Car hardly ever gets parked outside.
I don't know why I bothered, the rubbers both sides have shrunk in under the escutcheons already.
I will be refitting some s/h old originals, they are still the right size after 40+ years.

Have you got the correct series of washers and wedged spacers behind the door skin or just a nut and washer?

This could be affecting door sag.

Thanks All.

I'll give it a go on the weekend (plastic)

I think I have the original nuts and washers etc. I seem to remember the curved washers on the front of the hinges. I'll have to pull the trim off to see what I used on the back (inside thread)

Cheers Alex.

You can get gasket material from repco. Is pinkish in colour and is almost identical to the original gasket material. Has a small amount of crush in it and holds well a bit like a spring washer would. Take your time cutting it out and punch the holes out with a hole punch.

Thanks "G"

I'll have a look at this too.

Cheers
Alex.
