ADR's started in 1970, so there's a grey area between 1970 and 1972, but those two comments basically sum it up.

Ummm... that'd be me then (well, at some point in the future hopefully!)... Why wouldn't this conversion be a 'daily driver' option?

1) Very, very noisy
2) low sump - damage if you ran over a pack of ciggies
3) poor low down torque would make it a chore in traffic/ hill starts etc
4) theft target

It would be a awesome track day weapon, but not for me, I sold my shell and R1 engine a few months back. I'm waiting for Matt Read to cook something else up instead.

1) muffle it
2) a new lowered sump is $180
3) mechanical advantage will overcome that
4) why so?

I couldn't see myself in an R1 powered mini as a daily driver because:
- No AC
- No Climate Control
- No Auto trans
- No PAS
- No Heated seats
- I value the integrity of my teeth
- I value my hearing
- I sit in peak hour city traffic for 2 hours a day
:D Just kidding.... sort of anyway.

I guess if you put things into perspective, being noisy, having a low sump, hard to drive at low speed, vibration, clunky.... sounds like a lot of the daily drivers I had when I was teenager. It also closely resembles (except for the power) a hotted up Cooper S I drove from Redcliffe to West End every work day for 2 years in the mid 70's. Come to think of it, I loved that then and it was the reason why I got back into minis later in life.

As a weekend weapon, heck yeah, and I'd love to add a turbo and NOS. But for me now as a daily driver, I'll pass. (I must be getting old)

My advice to you is go for it, both hands. Practicality is relative, and I don't know your curcumstances.

Judging by the people that post on the UK mini forum it's not just exhaust noise, but gear noise and vibration as well. Then again, I might just be getting old......

I look at the amount of stuff i pass over during my drive to work, even the mini has hit some things, any lower and it would be worse.

Maybe its just the unsavory people I meet,Or the fact someone threw a brick through my rear windscreen last weekend, but a mini is not the most secure vehicle. A fire breathing sequential shifting mini would stand out like a dogs danglies.

At the present time, Hillclimb & Motorkhana are the only 2 Cams events that a Bike engined car can be entered in.Depends on the Organiser though, what they allow/don't allow.

well we can run in all-->,,, street sprints, , , circuit sprints,,,, hillclimbs,,,, autocross,,,, motorkhanas,,,, & then there`s all the AASA circuit racing events , door to door racing around Lakeside & Queensland raceway is pretty much std issue

sooooo,,,, i don`t see too much of a problem with any shortage of available events at all really
