Guys I have a mate up here Phil Swinton who used to race sports sedans quite competitively back in the day. He is looking for his old sports sedan. You were so helpful in my last quest I thought I may try again. The car was sold to a fella by the name of Tim Tritton of NSW. Does the name ring a bell with anybody on here. Would love to help this guy get his old mini back.
G.

Big thanks to TOZOOM for your lead. The car although in pieces, some of those pieces have been located. With a little luck we may be able to reunite Phil with enough of his car to reconstruct it.

Here is a photo of Phils car going through Hungry at Lakeside in the early 1980's.
This weapon would real off 59 second laps one after the other with Phil in the Drivers seat.
To watch that car come down under the bridge and into Hungry was an awsome sight,
I still consider this to be the most spectacular sight, as a spectator, i have ever seen at a race track :P
Fastest Mini ever to go around at Lakeside and Surfers Paradise!!!!
We all have our Mini Hero's and I don't mind admitting that Phil is Mine.
A Brilliant, engineer, car builder and driver we could all learn a lot from him.

What sort of engine was propelling that around at 59seconds?

1430 with Arden 8 port.
Not bad considering that time was set on the old track about 20 years ago.

I have just spoken to Phil, He would dearly love to see any footage of his car.
Amaroo was the first time we ventured down south with the sporets sedan.
Had a great weekend.
It would be magic to see it on film all these years later.

Dave

Yes mate, no video phones or personal recorders in those days!!
Had to rely on the local TV stations for their footage.
Unfortunately we never saw any of it :( :(
